Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy for Teens

1152113882People think they can fix me.

You already read that self-help book your teacher lent you, but it didn’t speak to you.

As far as you’re concerned, you really don’t need to fix anything in yourself. You believe you can get through this on your own; you try to convince yourself and those around you of that.

Well, I’m here to help you explore ways of effectively communicating what you have to say to the world, so you can better express your unique creative self.

Jim* was one such client I helped.

I met Jim as a high school junior, feeling the pressure of going into senior year, knowing he didn’t want to attend that Ivy League school his dad insisted he needed to succeed.

He couldn’t sleep and started smoking pot and using other substances to control his anxiety and function in school.

The thought of confronting his father and expressing his wishes felt impossible. He was confused and conflicted about his choices and how to broach the subject.

2202006811With the right support, he could find a way forward.

In our first session, it was pointed out that he knew what he didn’t want to do. This made him realize he could make his own choices, which marked the starting point of a process that allowed him to explore his talents and wishes.

After a year, he could speak for himself and talk to his father about his wishes in a non-confrontational way as an independent and autonomous family member.

Jim is now thriving academically and socially. I can help you do the same. Let’s talk – (773) 219-2152, leilaypsychoanalysis@gmail.com.
